Poland is one of the EU States in which the level of unemployment is still relatively high, despite having declined recently. At the end of June 2009, the number of unemployed registered with labour offices was 1,658,700 (including 868,500 women).
At the same time, the unemployment rate in Poland was equal to 10.7% of the labour force, whereas the unemployment rate in Małopolska was 8.7%, which was one of the lowest rates in the country. The graph below shows the unemployment rate in Małopolska between July 2008 and June 2009.
